Watching him
He is in the bath, my Batsman boy
I am with him, watching him play in the water.
Buckets, fish, bubbles and soap.
My beautiful boy.
The joy in your eyes when you work out how to blow bubbles with a bubble wand is a sight to behold.
I am aware in that moment of how much I love him, my lovely three year old boy, love him with every tiny fibre of my being.
I keep watching him, my Batsman, as he reaches up, ever so gently to catch the bubbles in the palms of his hands.
So gentle.
I love you my first born.
I love your smile and the shine in your eyes.
I love the gentle way you play with your little brother.
I love your eyelashes, long and curling toward the sky
I love your exuberance as you bounce on the trampoline and squeal “bit excited”.
I love it when you reach up and say “hold my hand” as we walk to kinder
I love it that you wear a hat to bed each night almost like a security blanket, hats and pyjamas together are beautiful.
I love you.
For your successes and your challenges, I love you.
For your determination and your vulnerability, I love you.
For your talents and your quirks, I love you.
For your affection and your protests, I love you.
For the little boy that you are, I love you.
For the distance you have come and the distance you still have to travel, I love you.
I know you will get there.
I love you.
