Small kindness

We stood there, the Batsman and I, waiting to go into the prep classroom for our first transition session. School looms large for February.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw a woman I had chatted to a few times at the gym. We had talked about the Batsman, her kids, primary school and autism. I only know her first name.
With her was a boy of about 10, tall and strong with a spike to his hair. She saw us standing there and   hurried over, a warm but unfussy greeting was given. She looked at us and said "big day eh?".
I nodded. She leaned forward and pointing to the Batsman, she said to her boy, "you see this little guy...he's a special one....you look after him ok?...make sure nothing happens to him at school."
Her boy nodded solemnly. She hurried on, "see ya soon", she yelled.

It was a small kindness. She could not have known how much it meant.
