Six months on

We had our 6 monthly appointment for the Batsman with the Gorgeous Paediatrician a couple of weeks ago. I swear she is the salt of the earth and with the exception of D Day, I always come away from talking with her feeling better about our autism road than when I arrived.

It's easy, when we are doing the day to day therapy sessions and kinder, to not take the time to reflect on the Batsman's progress and all those little skills that keep creeping up the ladder, climbing, climbing and developing all the time. It's not that we don't notice improvement it's just harder to be present to the power of it when you are slogging it out to get through the week. A visit to the Gorgeous Paediatrician makes me really look and see how far he has come. I prepare a list of things we want to discuss with her because my scatty brain can't always remember when we're in there it's great to make the best use of the time.

So, we go into her rooms with the Batsman and a big sunny smile breaks out on her and the Batsman's faces as they greet each other. Even only seeing her twice a year, the Batsman has fallen in love with her just a little. I did say she was Gorgeous didn't I?

She looks at the Captain and I and says "Wow...did you see the eye contact and greeting he just gave me? He has come so far, so far. You must be thrilled."

And it's in that moment that I see it, really see it, with heart and mind wide open, how far he has come.
Six months on.
