How do I ever say thank you?
In a couple of weeks the Batsman will complete his ABA program that has run five days a week in our home for the last two and a half years. He is ready and willing for school now. The team of therapists who have worked with him and come and gone daily from our lives will no longer visit. It feels a little strange after such an intensive time for it to be ending. My feelings are so mixed – happy, sad, daunted, excited, relieved and exhausted.
The main feeling I have though, is one of gratitude. I feel so much gratitude that this team of people became part of our lives and in partnership with us, invested absolutely every ounce of energy, skill and expertise to help our beautiful Batsman be all he can be. And he is doing that right this second, being all he can be.
After two and a half years, “grateful” doesn’t even really begin to cover it. And somehow I am left with the question….How do I ever say thank you?
We had a party at home yesterday as a gesture of thanks to our team. The Batsman’s favourite colour is orange so there was an orange theme, in outfits and in food. We invited everyone who has worked with him since 2010 and so many of them came, dressed in orange for the Batsman. It was a beautiful day, filled with laughter and tears and words of thanks and acknowledgement.
I’m just not sure that cupcakes and champagne will ever really be enough to express how truly thankful we are.
