Grateful for those who get it
Sometimes days and even weeks can go by before someone who "gets it" crosses my path.
This week there were a few and I am ever so grateful for them.
They are the people who demonstrate that they care about what the life of an autism parent is like. "Hey, I have just put the kettle on. Let me make you a cup of tea."
They are the ones who are not afraid to ask questions.
They are the ones who seek information and try to learn more.
They are the ones who delight in the progress and achievements of the Batsman and they tell me so.
They are the ones who are inclusive.
They are the ones who go out of their way to check what might make the Batsman more comfortable in a new situation.
They are the ones who don't compare their typically developing child's bad day with the Batsman's daily struggles with autism.
And you know what, a lot of the time, these ones don't even realise that they belong to the "we get it" group. They are not looking for accolades or acknowledgement. Most often they don't even realise the difference they have made to my week.
Well, they have and I am full of gratitude.
Thank you.

I don't pretend to know what it is like being a parent of an Autistic child, but I thank you for sharing how to care without alienating. x
